Why you should be a socialist

The racism of police violence. Climate change. Sexism and homophobia. War. Economic inequality. The injustices of American society stand exposed for everyone to see. Yet, the many apologists for capitalism claim that whatever its defects, there is no alternative to a system that puts corporate greed ahead of human need. We disagree!

Come to this meeting to discuss what socialism is and how you can get involved today in the struggle to change the world!

Speakers will be Alexander Wood, teacher, and Pepijn Brandon, historian at the University of Pittsburgh.

Join us for an in-depth discussion on the relationship between racism and capitalism.

We'll read Ahmed Shawki’s book "Black Liberation and Socialism"

The study group will start with a kickoff meeting on April 21 @7pm

How to Study Marx Today?

Since the beginning of the global economic crisis of 2008, the ideas of Karl Marx have been back with a vengeance! But for those who are new to his ideas, studying this 19th century revolutionary thinker can be challenging.
Pepijn Brandon is a historian from Amsterdam who is now a researcher at Pitt. He'll introduce how to study Marx today, appealing to those in need of a "beginner's guide" as well as those already familiar with Marx's writings.
